Internet fraudster jailed for 2 years


                                      



Justice Demi-Ajayi of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City,  Edo State has  convicted and sentenced  Osawaru Samson to two years imprisonment,  with an option of fine  of N1,000,000( One Million Naira only).


 Samson was arraigned by the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a two count charge bordering on impersonation.

One of the counts read: "That you Osawaru Samson on or about the 6th day of May, 2019 at Benin City,  within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court fraudulently impersonated Kennedy Lucas and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrimes (prohibition prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22(2)(b)(iv) of the same Act.

Samson pleaded guilty to the charges  when they  were read to him.

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel,  M. Funkeye prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly. However, defence counsel,  Paul Ejiga prayed the court to temper justice with mercy as the defendant was a first -time offender and has promised never to return to crime.

Justice Demi-Ajayi sentenced the defendant to two years imprisonment or a fine of One Million Naira. The convict is also to undertake in writing to be of good behaviour forthwith.

Nigeria Central Bank Governor Breached The Quarantine To Fly Family To The UK

                 Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, used a private jet to fly his wife and children to the United Kingdom in violation of the closure of the Nigerian airspace during COVID-19 lockdown across the country. The Nigerian Government had announced that only essential travels will be permitted by air across the country but flight manifest sighted by SaharaReporters shows that  Emefiele used a private jet – a Global Express Bombardier 550 luxury jet with registration number N104DA – belonging to businessman, Aliko Dangote. The former King of Spain leaves the country over alleged corruption

Spain's former monarch King Juan Carlos has left the country amid accusations he had a £58.5 million stashed in an offshore account.  The Spain authorities opened an investigation involving Juan Carlos in a high speed rail in Saudi Arabia. The money was alleged to be given to Juan Carlos by the former king of Saudi Arabia King Abdullah. His destination is unknown but he said he would be available if prosecutors needed to interview him. The Spanish royal family website published a letter from Juan Carlos to his son King Felipe VI on Monday saying, "I am informing you of my considered decision to move during this period, out of Spain."    The report against the former King of Spain alleged that he transferred a large sum of money to a friend in what investigators consider as an attempt to hide the money from authorities.
