The former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday returned to Mali to continue his mediation mission as a special envoy of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to find a solution to the political impasse in the country. Also flying with him to Bamako, Mali is Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari,  President of the Republic of Niger and Chair of ECOWAS Authority Mahamadou Issoufou , Macky Sall, President of Senegal, Alassane Ouattara, President of Cote d’Ivoire and Nana Akuffo-addo, President of the Republic of Ghana.
The high level delegation will be meeting key stakeholders in the Mali with the view of solving the view of solving the problem.

Following Dr Jonathan's visit to Mali last week were the consulted different interest groups including President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, Prime Minister Boubou Cisse, Imam Mahmoud Dicko, members of the M5-RFP collation , the majority coalition in Parliament, judges, heads of international agencies, diplomats, members of Civil Society as well as women and youth groups, his mediation team has recommended a formation of a government of national unity comprising different interest groups from the ruling coalition, opposition party and the civil society.

Dr. Jonathan's mediation team also recommended the establishment of a technical committee to be set up by ECOWAS to monitor the implementation of the special envoy's recommendations. 

Most of the political groups and stakeholders has accepted the proposed formation of a unity government as a way out of the political impasse. The opposition group, M5 is the the only major group not to accept the unity government, they have continued to insist on the resignation of the president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
