EDO 2020: Why we want Obaseki out —Ize-Iyamu | Ripples Nigeria

Five members of Edo state house of Assembly has visited the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate Osagie Ize-Iyanmu to pledge their support to him and to their party APC. The five members are the Deputy Speaker Edo state House of Assembly Hon. Yekini Idiaye of Akoko-Edo Constituency I,Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje, Akoko-Edo Constituency II; Hon. Nosayaba Okunbor, Orhiomwon East Constituency; Hon. Dumez Ugiagbe, Member-elect, Ovia North East Constituency I; and Mr. Hon. Vincent Uwadiae, Member-elect, Ovia North East Constituency II.

They are pledged their support to him and declared that the they will not leave the party for any other one. They pledged their loyalty to party flag bearer Ize-Iyanmu. Speaking during the visit the Deputy Speaker Hon. Idiaye said he will not support Governor Obaseki for the second tenure because he has failed to undertake any project in his own constituency.

He said: “There is no reason for me to defect to another party because there is no single project in my village to show under this present administration.”

“I am from Somorika, in Akoko Edo Local government area and my village is the most backward in Akoko Edo.”

Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje  also said “There are clear reasons why we are standing for our party because what would have been our problem in making progress has left us.”

“I want to assure Edo people that with the emergence of Ize-Iyamu, Edo will move forward”.

In his reply, Ize-Iyamu thanked them for their visit and their courage. He also criticized the governor for dividing the state by denying representation to 14 elected lawmakers for over a year.

According to Ize-Iyamu, by the sheer fact that 17 of the 24 members of the Assembly have roundly rejected the governor, the partial assembly he forcefully put together, against the resolution of the National Assembly, has now fallen apart.

In his words, “Over a year, 14 members have not been allowed to occupy their seats and over half of the state have been deprived of fair representation.”

“The Deputy Speaker of the house has come to show courage and integrity that he can no longer support Gov. Obaseki. He made it clear that he was appointed under APC and will remain in APC. In a house of 24 members, 17 are no longer supporting Gov. Obaseki meaning the house has fallen apart.”

Ize-Iyamu assured the lawmakers of bringing development to their constituencies when elected as Edo Governor.
