Bill Cosby appeals against conviction

Bill Cosby granted appeal in Pennsylvania sex assault case

Lawyers representing Bill Cosby have appealed to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania on the ground that his sexual assault trial was unfair.

According to court documents obtained by Fox News, Cosby’s legal team believes the jury was unfairly prejudiced against him when his trial allowed five women to testify with allegations against the comedian, despite the fact that he'd never been charged in connection with the claims.

His lawyers have challenged the decision to allow past accusers to testify about events that occurred as far back as the 1970s. In their latest appeal, Cosby’s lawyers call the testimony “unduly remote” and “lacking any striking similarities or close factual nexus to the conduct for which Petitioner was on trial.”

Bill Cosby was once 'America's Dad.' Now he's a convicted pariah.

Other grounds of appeal borders on a deposition Cosby made in a civil suit which his lawyer argues could not be used to prosecute him.

“Petitioner reasonably relied upon those oral and written statements by providing deposition testimony in the civil action, thus forfeiting his constitutional right against self-incrimination,” the legal documents stated.

In an earlier case of sexual assault against Cosby only one accuser was allowed to give evidence against Cosby which ended in acquittal. A year latter following the #MeToo movement , the judge allowed 5 other accusers to testify against Cosby. He was found guilty of the sex charges and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
