Kamala Harris to be Joe Biden's running mate
Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his running mate, making the California senator the first Black and Indian American woman to contest for vice president.
She attended Howard University, in Washington D.C. and UC-Hastings College of law.
Kamala (pronounced comma-la) contested in the primaries for the Democrat presidential ticket and criticised Biden's past positions on busing to desegregate schools in a June 2019 Democratic debate.
Biden in his email on Tuesday stated"I've decided that Kamala Harris is the best person to help me take this fight to Trump and Mike Pence and then to lead this nation starting in January 2021,"
Trump reacting to Biden's pick criticised her comment on Biden busing to desegregate "She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden and it's hard to pick somebody that's that disrespectful," Trump said.
Mr Biden on Harris wrote "a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country's finest public servants".
"I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse," he tweeted.
"I was proud then, and I'm proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign."
