President Putin has announced that Russia has developed the world's first vaccine for coronavirus, codenamed "Sputnik" . He announced that the vaccine produced by Gamaleya Institute is safe and effective.

The Russian vaccine uses adapted strains of the adenovirus, a virus that usually causes the common cold.

President Putin said “One of my daughters did the inoculation herself,” he said before a cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning.

“After the first injection, her temperature went up to 38, but by the next day it was just a little over 37.”

Russia plans to start inoculation of medical staff in August and in early 2021 to start general inoculation. A full inoculation will provide immunity for 2 years.

Critiques have  warned against the lack of testing and that fewer that hundred people was tested.
