CONGOLESE WINS EUROPE'S TOP AWARD
Dr Denis Mukwege a Congolese gynaecologist has won Europe's top human rights award. He was announced the winner of Sakharov prize by European parliament in Strasbourg. The award attracts a $60,000 prize. Dr Denis founded the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu where he specializes in the treatment of women who were gang raped by the rebel forces in his country Democratic Republic of Congo. Since when the hospital was found 16 years ago more than 30,000 rape survivors have been treated. Previous winners of the Sakharov award are Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi. Last year the award was won by Malala Yousafzai a Pakistani child education activist.
