Nigeria to announce list of countries that can fly into Nigeria

   Nigeria will release   a list of countries that can fly into the country. Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, last week made it clear that Nigeria will apply principle of reciprocity. The principle means that countries that bans flights from Nigeria will also be banned to fly to Nigeria International flights in Nigeria is meant to commence on Friday, 4th of September. Speaking at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Thursday, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director-General, Captain Musa Nuhu, stated that the list of countries which carriers will be allowed into Nigeria will be announced next week. “In due course and very shortly, we will announce the protocols once the logistics are done, the protocols for the resumption and also further details on the principles of reciprocity that we mentioned will be given. “We are looking at a list and we are working on that and hopefully early next week, we will release it,” Nuhu said.

Putin planning to intervene in Belarus

     Vladimir Putin has confirmed that Russia will fulfill all its obligation in Belarus if 'extremist elements' are judged to have 'crossed the line' . The Russian President said he acted after a conversation with Alexander Lukashenko, in which the incumbent president of Belarus asked if Russia would stand by its commitments to defend his country. 'I said that Russia will fulfill all its obligations,' Putin said from Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014 after the overthrow of the pro-Russian government. 'But we agreed that it will not be used until the situation starts to get out of control.' Asked by reporters for the Russia-1 TV channel what 'crossing a line' would mean, Putin gave the examples of 'burning cars and looting'.   Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina has been re-elected as the President of the Africa Development Bank. Adesina has been re-elected by the Board of Governors of the Bank at the ongoing AfDB’s virtual annual meeting in Abidjan on Thursday. Dr. Adesina from Nigeria is the sole candidate running in the election which will take place electronically on Thursday. Dr. Adesina was a former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria. He graduated with a Bachelors in Agricultural Economics with First Class Honours from the University of Ife, Nigeria (1981), where he was the first student to be awarded this distinction by the university. He pursued his studies at Purdue University in Indiana, He obtained his PhD (Agricultural Economics) in 1988 from Purdue where he won the Outstanding PhD Thesis for his research work.

Mali: Power return to the civilians must be quick - French Foreign Minister

  France’s foreign minister said on Thursday that the transition in Mali needs to be quick, but that the coup d’etat in the country would not stop French military operations targeting Islamist militants. The leaders of the military coup that ousted President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita in Mali on Aug. 18 have told a delegation of West African mediators that they want to stay in power for a three-year transition period, Nigeria said on Wednesday. “The transition must be done quickly, power returned to civilians and that there is a political agenda put in place to allow this country to find a political stability,” Jean-Yves Le Drian told RTL radio. Former colonial power France has some 5,100 troops in the Sahel region with a large portion operating from Mali, where it intervened in 2013 to stop an Islamist militant advance on the capital Bamako. “(The French operation) will continue,” Le Drian said. “This battle continues. The Junta say the same thing.”

EFCC arrests 15 internet fraudsters

           Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, have arrested 15 suspected internet fraudsters in the Lekki area of Lagos State. The suspects are: Sunday Okpe; Taiwo Adelagun; Obarakyo Tega; Fasuyi Oladapo; Mark Adedeji Kuju; Adelakun Kehinde Adewunmi; Temitope Gabriel Onore, Christopher Blessed and Aniche Ezenwa Francis. Others are: Abiodun Godspower Odion; Abiodun ThankGod Omoh; Raji Ayo Sheriff; Adeogun Babatunde, Olusesi Razaq Demola and Kole Adetoyinbo. The suspected internet fraudsters were arrested on August 15, 2020 at Ayo Babatunde Crescent and James Adejumo areas of Lekki, Lagos State, following intelligence received from concerned members of the public on their criminal activities. During the arrest, the suspects, who are allegedly members of Organized Cyber Criminal Syndicate Network, OCCSN, tried to destroy evidence by flushing their mobile devices into the toilet, burning some and also throwing their laptops into the nearby
