The Hisbah arrest 12 over Gay marriage in Kano State Nigeria
The Sharia police Hisbah, has arrested 12 people in Kano for conducting a gay marriage. The suspects are mostly teenagers.
Homosexuality is banned under the Nigerian legal system. Under the Sharia law which is applicable in the northern part of Nigeria. The Shariah Police confirmed that the have 12 people in their custody. According to our informant the suspects came from Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Bauchi, Ibadan and Osogbo and they all looked and acted feminine.
One of the suspects 18 year old Farouk Maiduguri told reporters at the Hisbah office that he and his friends were celebrating his birthday.
He said in tears "It was my birthday party not a gay wedding."
It was not clear if the will be charged but their family has been informed.
