Prince Andrew, The Duke of York |
The Duke of York Prince Andrew has spoken for the first time this evening regarding claims by an American woman that she was forced to have sex with him when she was 17 year old.. He was speaking at The World Economic Forum reception in Davos, Switzerland. He said he wish to reiterate the denials issued by Buckingham Palace.
Prince Andrew said: "Firstly I think I must, and want, for the record, to refer to events that have taken place in the last few weeks.
"I just wish to reiterate and to reaffirm the statements that have already been made on my behalf by Buckingham Palace.
"My focus is on my work and this evening's reception allows me to tell you about just a couple of the initiatives that I have founded and am passionate about."
The American woman alleging that she was forced to have sex with the prince, Virginia Roberts has issued fresh statement repeating in her own words the allegations against him (Prince Andrew) in US court papers. She claims the prince had sex with her on three occassions when when she was 17 - under age in Florida, where the court papers have been filed. She wants the prince to deny her allegations under oath.
From the information reaching me, Miss Roberts lawyers last week sent a letter to "His Royal Highness The Duke of York at Buckingham Palace offering to interview him under oath about the allegation "at a time and place of your choosing." But the said the courier had informed them the letter had been refused by the recipient.
