Candice Carty-Williams won the Book of the Year Award at the British Book Awards on Monday. She becomes the first Black British woman to win the Book of the year. Carty-Williams won the award for Queenie, her debut novel.
Carty-Williams said: “This win makes me hopeful that although I’m the first, the industry is waking up to the fact that I shouldn’t and won’t be the last.”
